I have a confession. I skip right over articles that want to tell me how the new year brings opportunities for change and renewal. Why? Probably for a number of reasons.
Most of the time, I figure there’s no real line of demarcation, really, between one year and the next. Also, I figure I’m already in the middle of things on their way to becoming resolved but aren’t yet. And finally, I don’t like to be told what to do on top of the cries from my own internal voice that’s already keen on adding to my to do list.
So I don’t write articles that purport to tell others how to embrace the new year, either. It’s likely I’m not the only one who skips over them or who reads them with nothing but guilt, as I have in the past, knowing full well what happens when I take on suggestions from others that aren’t in line with my own needs.
